Hey everybody, my name is Phillip Shepard. I’m a local real estate agent here in Northwest Arkansas, and today we’re going to be talking about food — something near and dear to my heart.
Here are weird and exciting restaurants in Northwest Arkansas:
- Heirloom at the 1907
- The Preacher’s Son
- The Witching Hour
- Bartleby’s Seitan Stand
- Slice Pizza
These restaurants aren’t normal, which makes them totally fun. Let’s get started!

1. Heirloom at the 1907
The first and most interesting restaurant — the one that’s the most fascinating to me — is Heirloom at the 1907. Strange name. I know, but hey, let’s work with what we’ve got. There’s very little known about this restaurant. It’s one room, and only 20 people are allowed in at a time. The restaurant offers a tasting menu for whatever the cooks want to make that night.
You don’t really know where the restaurant is when you first get there because there’s just a wooden wall. There’s only one door knob on this wall. On their website (I’m quoting here verbatim), it says: “Good things are hard to find. Look for the door, near the handholding, the guiding light, you have arrived.” Super cryptic, I know.
I admit I haven’t been to this restaurant yet, but I have reservations to get in. It’s booked out for a long time, to say the least.
Heirloom is a newer restaurant here in Northwest Arkansas, located in Rogers. I’m super fascinated to see how they handle things since there’s so little known about the restaurant.
I’ve heard the food is fantastic. The actual ambiance is just top tier — owing to their weird, mystic, and cryptic attitude towards all their food.
You won’t know what you’ll eat when you drop by since there’s no menu. Heirloom is fascinating because you’ll be eating in the restaurant with 20 people you don’t know. You can have a reservation for two or more, and you don’t know what food Heirloom will serve you. You’re going to go into a door that’s kind of cryptically located. It sounds like a good time to me.

2. The Preacher’s Son
The next restaurant is called The Preacher’s Son. This is an exciting restaurant because it’s built in a reformed church. The curators took a church and made it into a restaurant, so it looks like a church, which is fantastic when you go inside. They have the old style of wood and stained glass.
It feels like you’re going to a church while eating delicious food. It’s more of an upscale restaurant, and the food is top-notch.
I suppose you might want to go there on a Sunday, but you can go there any time of the week. The Preacher’s Son has outstanding design and great style, making it a great addition to the Bentonville area.

3. The Witching Hour
The Witching Hour is a burger and horror-based food truck located in Bentonville, Arkansas. If you like any of those things and want to experience them together, it has a fantastic menu. They have everything horror there. The food truck is meant to be scary, so anything you think about when you think of horror is there. The menu isn’t designed to scare you per se but just to have that ambiance of horror.
The food, of course, is top tier — excellent, great burgers, for one. The real pull is the ambiance of all the designs that the owner has put into it. It’s fascinating because the owner changes it all the time.
I do love it because I’ve been to a couple of horror-themed restaurants in my past — Mexican food and tacos — but nothing comes close to The Witching Hour in my opinion.

4. Bartleby’s Seitan Stand
Are you a fan of Chick-fil-A? If you are, there’s a great food truck here called Bartleby’s Seitan Stand. For those who aren’t familiar, seitan is a wheat protein you can use as a vegan replacement for meat. Basically, Bartleby’s is a vegan food truck.
You can enjoy their fantastic food if you like Chick-fil-A, nuggets, and chicken cutlets.
Bartleby’s owner herself is fantastic. She moved here from Boston and loves it down here. The food truck is doing so well here because it’s one of the only vegan food trucks around. Its chicken also competes against Chick-fil-A.
Despite being up against a big name, Bartleby’s does well for themselves and can be purchased online. Bartleby’s food ships everywhere, whether you’re in Boston or LA.
Concept-wise, the restaurant is interesting because it’s named after Bartleby, who’s known as a little devil. And seitan is pronounced “say tan,” like Satan.
Overall, I love the great branding and marketing. If you like vegan food or if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, give it a try.
5. Slice Pizza
Last but not least is Slice Pizza, based in Bentonville, Arkansas. I’m a massive fan of pizza coming from the world’s pizza capital. Dave and Jenny Mars from HDTV’s “From Fixer to Fabulous” own Slice Pizza. They decided to bring in their chef brother-in-law to make their own kind of pizza food truck.
I’m always a fan of pizza food trucks because I’m a fan of pizza. Anytime you say pizza, I’m like: “Please, where, and when “. If you come to Bentonville, definitely check out Slice Pizza bar, located in Bentonville. Not only is the food great, but the eatery is owned by a local celebrity as well. If you like pizza and Dave and Jenny Mars (or at least, their HDTV show), then definitely check out this one.
