If you’re in Northwest Arkansas, you have to check out the Onyx Coffee Lab in Fayetteville. It’s one of the best cafes in the world, and that’s not even an exaggeration. There are a few Onyx Coffee Labs in Northwest Arkansas, but I’ll focus on the one located in Gregg Ave, Fayetteville.

The Onyx Coffee Lab in Fayetteville is one of the best specialty coffee places in the area. The owner is Andrea Allen, the 2020 US Barista Champion, so you know the coffee is good. The place is open from 6:30 AM to 6 PM during workdays and from 7:00 AM on weekends, so make sure to check it out.

The rest of this article will go over everything you need to know about Onyx Coffee, the food, the drinks, the location, and more. So, let’s get started!

Video:

Location, Business Hours, and Payment

Ambiance

The exterior of this third-wave coffee establishment isn’t anything too special. It sports a brick-and-black wall with a red roof, and there’s a small patio with a couple of chairs for those sunny summer days.

But the interior is absolutely gorgeous. It has a modern Cali-style look to it, and you can see the baristas prepare your coffee, which is just so satisfying to watch. There are a few shelves with different coffees, teas, and all kinds of merchandise.

Onyx Coffee is super famous, so it’s almost always filled to the brim. Their seating capacity is only about 40, so you might have to wait to get an order in. I usually get the coffee to go if there’s a crowd. It’s especially busy around 10–11 am on weekends, so just be aware of that before you head over.

There’s also a cool comic-style Decaf mural in the back, so check that out if you haven’t already seen it while driving up to the place.

The owner of Onyx Coffee Lab is Andrea Allen, the 2020 US Barista Champion, and 2021 runner-up World Barista Champion. She really is one of the best coffee experts in the world and has a huge passion for a perfect cup of coffee. She’s trained her team to make amazing coffee, and I can attest to that. That’s why I put Onyx Coffee on my #1 spot of The Best Coffee Shops in Northwest Arkansas.

Menu

What’s cool about Onyx Coffee is that it has an ever-changing menu with some really cool seasonal offerings. But there are also some mainstays, and I’ll now go over all of that.

Drinks

For most coffee roast options and modifications, you’ll have to ask the friendly baristas. Onyx Coffee is the perfect place to experiment, and I strongly recommend you do that, especially if you want to find a new favorite specialty roast.

Here are some classic drinks that you can expect:

  • Espresso
  • Pour-over coffee
  • Latte
  • Cappuccino
  • Nitro cold brew
  • Matcha and chai lattes
  • Hot chocolate
  • Organic smoothies

There are also some tasty seasonal drinks. For example, their 2023 Spring Menu features a Honey Lavender Latte, an espresso with pistachio milk, honey lavender, and shaved panela. You can get the medium for $6 or the large for $6.5. Here are a few other items from the Spring Menu:

  • Organesicle Float. Nitro, yuzu, orange, vanilla, oat sorbet, orange spritz.
  • Hibiscus Rose Kombucha. Homemade.
  • Mint Matcha Shake. Matcha, spring mint, oat sorbet, fresh mint.
  • Blended London Fog. Earl Grey, honey lavender, oat sorbet, bergamot.

They always have a handful of specialty pour-over options, such as:

  • Burundi Long Miles Gaharo Hill
  • Ecuador La Papaya Typica Anaerobic
  • Peru Cajamarca Erilberto Altamirano

Pretty much all drinks are available hot or iced. And, of course, there are some vegan milk options as well. Just ask your bartender.

They don’t serve alcoholic beverages.

Food

There are several snacks and savory dishes, but don’t expect any large, restaurant-style meals. Nonetheless, they’re all delicious and fit the theme of the establishment perfectly. Here are some savory foods:

  • Breakfast sandwich
  • Impossible kolache
  • Avocado sourdough
  • Fresh club baguette
  • Pimento sandwich
  • Laminated hot honey chicken

And here are some delicious pastries and sweets that’ll go perfectly with a cup of coffee:

  • Croissants — They have almond, chocolate, ham & cheese, and garlic, shallot & cheddar.
  • Chocolate chip cookie
  • Macaron
  • Banana bread
  • Blueberry muffin
  • Granola bars
  • And others.

They also have a couple of gluten-free and vegan food items; just be sure to ask.

Merchandise

You should absolutely check out their awesome merch if you want to support Onyx Coffee and if you want to get a nice gift for a coffee drinker you love!

They have a few collections and roaster sample boxes, which are perfect if you want to try a lot of things at once. Of course, they also have all kinds of brew kits and fancy coffee mugs.

They even have coffee-inspired dog toys!

If you want to sport their apparel, they offer a wide range of beanies, hats, shirts, sweatshirts, and even cyclist gear.

If you want beans to bring home, they have that, too. Their specialty coffees come in gorgeous packaging and with some really catchy names. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Ethiopia Demeka Becha
  • Ethiopia Hayissa Olocho Natural
  • Honduras Edgardo Reyes
  • Southern Weather
  • Geometry

You can check out their complete selection of coffees and order them here.

Of course, you can taste-test and purchase any of these specialty roasts in their Fayetteville location as well.

And that pretty much wraps up this quick overview of Onyx Cafe. Now if you don’t want to drive all the way to Fayetteville and want something near Bentonville, then might I recommend – Stone Mill Cafe, an awesome place I checked out recently that I’m sure you’ll love too. [

Final Thoughts

Onyx Coffee is the place to go if you’re a fan of third-wave coffee and love to drink all kinds of fancy drinks. Or if you just want a good espresso or pour-over coffee, they have that too. Be sure to check out this awesome little spot if you’re in Fayetteville.
