Great news for everyone in Bentonville: US Cycling has announced that the US National Championships Headquarters is headquartered right in Bentonville. This significant development could impact the whole area, but how did this organization come to this decision? What makes Bentonville the ideal place for this purpose?
Bentonville has become the HQ Of USA Mountain Biking for a few reasons. First, it has a good system of trails built with intentionality and accessible all year long. Additionally, it has established biking camps and general outdoor culture. Finally, Bentonville is friendly and open to newcomers.
In the rest of this article, I will explain why Bentonville became the HQ of USA mountain biking according to the organization and my reasoning. Let’s get started!

Bentonville, HQ of USA Mountain Biking
The fact that US Cycling chose Bentonville as the headquarters for mountain biking is quite impressive. It means mountain bikers from all over the country will train here in Bentonville and then compete worldwide.
How come this particular area is best suited for this purpose? There are several reasons. First, I will cover the organization’s reasons for why Bentonville is great for mountain biking, and then I will explain some more “secret” reasons that I think went behind the decision.
Official Reasons Why US Cycling Chose Bentonville
First, let’s see all the facts that US Cycling offered as the reasoning behind the decision to declare Bentonville, Arkansas, as their official headquarters.
Trails
The first reason, according to US Cycling, was the trail system. It’s a pretty well-known fact that Bentonville has a great system of trails. Trails are crucial for mountain biking training in general, but Bentonville trails, in particular, are ideal. The trails here are diverse, offering the opportunity to train in different ways.
Championship mountain bikers who have been in Bentonville have always remarked how great the system is for training, so it makes sense that US Cycling would prefer these systems. These trails are famous and well-developed.
Camps
The second reason that US Cycling offers is the camps. Camps refer to the community side of things, which is just as important as the rest of the training process. Community means people getting together and coming down here from all across America to train and be part of camps to improve their skills.
Someone who wants to build a world-class team should create groups of mountain bikers training specifically for the world championships to come together in such camps. This way, they can improve their whole skill set.
What makes Bentonville special is that people have already created camps for bikers, so US Cycling will only need to add some specific camps for world-class biking. Right now, there are different camps for different ages and various types and skill levels of biking, so everyone can be part of them.
Skills Development
The last reason the US Cycling organization mentioned why they chose Bentonville specifically, out of all the places in the United States, is the skills development. The whole community here is specifically focused on this one thing, i.e., all forms of biking, and the trails and the camps help improve biking skills.
The majority of people here focus on biking because it’s a fun sport; it’s cool and enjoyable. Additionally, it’s good exercise, helps you get out in nature, and be with your friends. Adding the skills component is logical and easy since the focus is already there.

Other Reasons Why US Cycling Chose Bentonville
It’s cool to see that US cycling is listing all these reasons why they have chosen Bentonville because it means they recognize all these advantages about biking here. However, I think there are a few more reasons why Bentonville was specifically picked out of so many places.
Built With Intention
One of the main reasons why I think US Cycling chose Bentonville is that we built out trails with intentionality. Now, that doesn’t mean that other places don’t, but we have companies that have started, developed, and trained here and get hired by different places in other states to do their trail systems.
We’ve developed such an interesting culture and a specialized skill set here in Bentonville, Arkansas, that can’t be replicated easily. Our trail builders have developed and created new systems, using new methods and thinking outside the box.
We have something called the Monument Trails scattered across all of Arkansas; one is in Devil’s Den, and another is Hobbs Park in the East. These trails are what I call the gold standard trails, world-renowned, and just perfect for mountain biking training.
All Year-Long Access
The second reason why I think US Cycling chose Bentonville specifically is that we have access to our trail systems all year long. Many parts of America have trail systems that are very good, but they’re covered in snow all year long or at least a good part of the year.
As a result, bikers can’t use them for maybe three or four months, which cuts down on training. Mountain biking world champions can’t keep them on an indoor bicycle practicing. This is one of the limitations of other places since mountain bikers need to fly or drive to alternative spots to get some training when their original trails are unavailable.
In Bentonville, there’s access to the trails all year long because the weather is perfect for this type of activity all the time. It gets hot in the summer and a little chilly in the winter, but if it does snow, it’s gone within less than 24 hours.
Outdoor Culture
The third reason is the fact that we have an outdoor culture in Northwest Arkansas. Naturally, we are big into biking around here, but people also like kayaking, camping, fly fishing, or rock climbing.
So there are so many other things to do outdoors in Northwest Arkansas besides biking, so we just have an outdoor culture in general. Northwest Arkansas truly offers opportunities for so many activities that you can do throughout the year.
We Invite All
The fourth reason–and I think this is probably the proudest thing that I am about Northwest Arkansas–is the fact that we invite all people to the area. A lot of people are moving here, since this is a fast-growing region, and everyone is so friendly.
Once you move here, you can easily strike a conversation with anyone, like your neighbors or your contractors, and everyone is friendly and eager to come out of their houses and meet you. People are trying to build a community and find common things they have with one another.
This community is charming and welcoming. The businesses here are also very generous and focused on giving back to the area, showing how close and tight-knit this community is. Everyone is trying to make this place one of the best and most friendly places in America.
Conclusion
There you have it: all the reasons why Bentonville is an excellent choice for the HQ of US cycling, but also why it’s so great for all kinds of bikers and outdoor enthusiasts in general. This new development in the area brings great opportunities for our community.
