Everyone Forgets About Lowell, Arkansas…Until

Lowell, Arkansas, is growing rapidly, yet no one is talking about it. It’s wedged between several other NWA cities, but no one seems to take notice of the city. But we are, as that’s the topic of today’s post.

Lowell, Arkansas, is wedged between Rogers and Springdale, so it gets ignored. But it’s quickly growing and will soon become in the same category as Rogers, Bentonville, and Fayetteville. Costco is planting its flag in Lowell, and many other developments are coming to Lowell very soon.

If you’re looking to put down roots in Northwest Arkansas and want to live in an up-and-coming city, keep reading. You’ll learn everything about Lowell, Arkansas, and why you should consider this area.

What’s Going On In Lowell

Lowell is wedged between Springdale and Rogers. And usually, when it comes to Chamber of Commerce stuff, Rogers and Lowell go hand in hand. But Lowell is starting to break away from that, becoming its own city and creating its own brand.

Lowell’s population is around 10,000, which isn’t a lot when you think about it. Other cities in the area have fewer people, such as:

  • Prairie Grove (7,000)
  • Pea Ridge (8,000)
  • Farmington (8,000)

So Lowell is slightly bigger, and it’s a city with many miles. And because it sits close to I-49, it’s prime for an explosive growth event. Since half of the city sits on the West side of 49, and half sits on the East side of 49, it’s primed for some great development in the future.

Costco Planting Its Flag In Lowell

(Note: As of July 2023, Costco is no longer planning to come to Lowell, Arkansas.

In May of 2023, Costco announced plans to build a Costco in Lowell, but then two months later, they canceled the plans–for now, anyway.

Should Costco decide to come back to the area, it would bring in several more new businesses to Lowell. And with those businesses, more housing would be built, and the explosive growth would continue.

Lowell has several acres of prime land available, and if Costco doesn’t choose to come here after all, several other businesses will. And being close to I-49, it’s an attractive area for more businesses and industries.

While disappointing, we can only hope they want to re-open their plans.

200 Acres For Parks

Lowell, like all of Northwest Arkansas, has several acres of land dedicated to recreational space. People love spending time on the 500 miles of trails we have here and love biking, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Well, it seems that Lowell got the message and announced that they’re dedicating 200 acres for outdoor activities, including baseball fields, trails, or other sports parks. They’re getting ready for the next big thing and don’t want to be left behind, which is why they’re doing this.

So, if you’re thinking of moving to Lowell, remember that they’re dedicating a lot of land for their parks.

Close to I-49

If you don’t know, I-49 runs right in the middle of Lowell, which means that if you buy property anywhere close to I-49, it will be prime real estate. The reason is that there’s easy access to the interstate, whether you’re going to Walmart HQ, Tyson HQ, or even the University in Fayetteville.

Being so close to I-49 gives Lowell several benefits, and the least of which is that you can go anywhere very quickly. And because businesses want a lot of exposure, the area will grow by leaps and bounds in the next decade.

One of the best things about moving to Lowell is that you have easy access to the interstate and can go anywhere within minutes. And if you are looking to buy a home and then need to sell, you’re going to do well and come out on top because of how close to the interstate you are in Lowell.

Located In the Middle of NWA

Lowell is located right in the heart of Northwest Arkansas, with Springdale hovering nearby. Why is this such a huge thing about Lowell?

If you work in Bentonville or attend school in Fayetteville, you don’t have as far to go as if you lived in Siloam Springs and wanted to go to Rogers. Or, if you live in Pea Ridge and want to go to Fayetteville, it would be further to travel than if you lived in Lowell and needed to go to the larger cities.

You get the perks of Bentonville, Rogers, Fayetteville, and even Bella Vista if you live in Lowell. Definitely keep Lowell in mind, as you can benefit so much better if you’re living there.

Major Housing Developments Made and Being Made

One of the reasons Lowell is such a sleeper town, and that I feel it’s going to explode in the next few years, is that there are already housing developments in place. Investors see that the area is so close to I-49, and they’re moving in and buying up a lot of land to build even more housing developments.

While Lowell doesn’t have the same number of houses as Fayetteville or Bentonville, there are still plenty of houses to choose from. Of course, these houses are between 5-7 years old, so if you want a brand-new house, you’ll need to look on the far east side of I-49 currently.

So it will be a bit further from the interstate, but I know that a lot of land is being developed, getting ready for new housing. Who knows? You might even find your favorite house in Lowell.

Mount Fitzgerald

We saved my favorite point for the last.

Every city has its mountain. Fayetteville has Mount Sequoia…there’s Mount Kessler, Centennial Mountain, Lake Wedington, and, in Bentonville, they have Kohler Mountain. Bella Vista has its own area, mountain, and miles of trails.

But, going down to Springdale, which is directly south of Lowell, sits Mount Fitzgerald. The mountain has so many miles of trails, so if you’re into the mountain biking scene, hiking, or running, Mount Fitzgerald is very close to Lowell.

If you live in Lowell, you can see Mount Fitzgerald anywhere you live or go. One of the best perks about Lowell is that you can take advantage of the trails, have a picnic, or even access Beaver Lake.

If you’re an outdoorsy type of person, you’ll enjoy Lowell, as you are very close to everything outdoors there.

Conclusion

Lowell is a great place that everyone forgets about because it’s not as large as Bentonville or Fayetteville, nor does it have the cultural draws that Rogers has. But if you want a slightly smaller-town vibe while still having close access to everything a larger metro area can offer you, then you’ll definitely want to check out Lowell.
