My name is Phillip Shepard, and I’m a local real estate agent located here in Northwest Arkansas. Today, I’ll be updating you on the exciting things happening in spring and early summer in Northwest Arkansas.
Northwest Arkansas has long held a reputation for having some of the best schools in America and affordable housing. However, the events in Bentonville and Fayetteville, such as sold-out concerts, music festivals, and infrastructure additions, are also talking points.
In this article, we’ll talk about the new developments in the area, something that happened last weekend, and some really cool things that will happen in the upcoming months in Northwest Arkansas. So let’s get started!
Video:
1. Best Schools in America
The first exciting thing that has happened is the announcement that, again, for many years in a row, Northwest Arkansas has some of the best school districts and even some of the top schools in all of America.
House Hall got ranked as the 16th best school in the country, which is an amazing feat. If you look through all the rankings, Bentonville, Fayetteville, and all the areas around here have fantastic schools when you compare them with others in America.
If you’re looking for a really good school system, and wanting to bring your kids down here, the whole area’s been top tier when it comes to school systems.
If your kid doesn’t want to go to Halls Hall, which is a charter school here, maybe they’ll go to Fayetteville School, Bentonville School, Farmington, or Rogers. All these schools are known nationally for being top-tier schools.
These Northwest Arkansas schools are very well-known when it comes to high-quality education because they are so focused on tech, science, culture, and math.
Everything about Northwest Arkansas is focused on the school system because many people have moved here over the last 15 years, and they want their kids to have a great education.
Walmart, J. B. Hunt, Tyson, and other big corporations are present here. These corporations have employees, and employees have students, and they all want to ensure that all the kids in the area are well-educated.
It’s not uncommon in Northwest Arkansas for parents to be highly involved with the school systems, and to make sure that everything is running smoothly. So, if you come down here and visit Northwest Arkansas, one of the first things you should check out is the school system because it is one of the top-tier school systems in America.

2. Affordable Housing
The second exciting thing is affordable housing. For many years in a row, Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been one of the most affordable places in all of America when it comes to housing.
If you’re looking for affordable housing, you’re probably looking at other places in America, for instance, North Carolina, Alabama, or Colorado. I did the same thing as you – I looked at other places like that.
There are some interesting ones, but they didn’t attract me because there are more benefits here in Northwest Arkansas than in those places.
Fayetteville, Arkansas, is extremely affordable if you compare other mid-sized cities in America. It’s really fascinating because there is a great balance between affordable housing and all the exciting things that you can do around Northwest Arkansas.
For example, you can go downtown, ride your bike around, grab a coffee, hang around the whole city, hike through the trail systems, or climb a mountain — there’s just so much to do.
So, if you’re looking for more affordable housing and want that mid-size city vibe, Fayetteville is there, and they do a great job of making sure that everyone can enjoy it, have a good recreation environment, a good life, and everything that comes with it.

3. Garth Brooks Concert
The third update actually happened last weekend, and it was the Garth Brooks concert.
Now, I’m going to be completely honest with you, I have never really listened to Garth Brooks. I don’t know his music at all. But once someone said that they were going to put Garth Brooks in the university stadium, I said, “I will be there 100%.”
So, along with 7,999 other people, I showed up at the University of Arkansas, and we just rocked out with Garth Brooks.
It was an amazing concert. I definitely went for the experience, so it was really cool to see the whole stadium completely filled. We’re talking every single seat filled, completely sold out, and the whole field was packed out as well.
It was the largest event the University of Arkansas has put on in its history, so it was great to be there.
Just a little note, if you are considering seeing Garth Brooks in concert, he is an amazing performer. I’m not a big fan of country music, but I can definitely say that he is an amazing, top-tier performer.
It was cool to see literally the whole area — we’re talking everybody in Fayetteville, Northwest Arkansas — packed into one event in one place. It was amazing, and I loved it!

4. Format Music Festival
The fourth thing that’s cool and happening in Northwest Arkansas, specifically on a 250-acre plot next to Bentonville on the east side, is the massive Lollapalooza festival.
The event is called Format. They’re going to have so many different artists there, and it’s going to be a great time, with 250 acres dedicated to music, art, and culture.
The anticipated number of people is between 20 and 30,000. So there’s going to be a lot of people coming to Northwest Arkansas. There will be places for you to stay as there are plenty of AirBnBs in the area. It will be a lot of fun, and I’m super excited.
5. Second Runway at XNA
The other thing is a little nerdy, but I appreciate that XNA, the major airport, is adding a second runway.
Part of the reason I chose to move to Northwest Arkansas is that a lot of the places I visited, like North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky area, parts of Arizona, and parts of Colorado, would take me forever to get to an airport if I wanted to fly anywhere.
But XNA has direct flights everywhere in America. So, when you see this second runway being put in, that tells me that they’re adding more flights, more destinations, and more places to go from XNA, Northwest Arkansas, to anywhere, probably in the world at some point.
XNA will continue to build and add more and more places to visit. This means you can move to Northwest Arkansas, and you can fly anywhere for a very, very affordable price.
I’m super jazzed to see that next runway done and more flights added so we can go to different places, from Northwest Arkansas to anywhere in America.
Conclusion
Northwest Arkansas has long been touted as a great place to live, especially with its excellent education system and affordable housing. The big events coming to town and the developments in its infrastructure are simply bonuses, but exciting ones, to be sure.
