Northwest Arkansas is Going To The Moon? Canoo , NASA, and SpaceX

In recent years, Northwest Arkansas has become a hub for technological advances. This corner of the Southern state will soon become home to a fantastic collaboration between head honchos of technology. In light of recent events, one might wonder, “Is northwest Arkansas going to the Moon?”

In 2024 and 2025, Northwest Arkansas will be the launching pad for an incredible space project involving new lunar exploration vehicles. This project will involve the combined efforts of NASA and SpaceX, leading to a potential human landing on the Moon.

This article will fill you in on the details of this project and collaboration. After reading this, you’ll know all about what to expect in the next couple of years as this plan reaches fruition.

Background Behind the Moon Collaboration

Let’s dive into the background of this grand technological innovation.

Rumors started to circulate that a grand technological innovation was coming to northwest Arkansas after Elon Musk visited the area. This had massive ramifications, including the possibility of Tesla acquiring Canoo, a similar electrical vehicle manufacturer.

Canoo used to be based in California but recently moved its headquarters to Northwest Arkansas. Their move helped create 500 more jobs, according to an article by 4029 News. The company chose Bentonville for its new headquarters.

After digging deeper, it’s become more apparent that Bentonville could become the new hub for the Artemis Project. The Artemis project is NASA’s goal to push for lunar exploration to learn more about the Earth. If this project is a success, NASA will better understand how we could send astronauts to explore Mars.

To help this project succeed, NASA will require suitable vehicles for lunar exploration to guarantee safe vessels for the astronauts sent on this mission. Luckily for Canoo, their prestige led to NASA awarding them the honor of creating these vehicles.

This fascinating building has been featured in my previous article, Northwest Arkansas and Tech: Tesla Competitor? World’s First Bike-able Building? Walmart = MetaMart. Feel free to check it out to learn more about Northwest Arkansas and its technology.

NASA’s Contract With Canoo

NASA has trusted Canoo to provide efficient and safe vehicles for Artemis’s lunar exploration mission. These vehicles will be all-electric, making them more feasible for this project.

Canoo’s vehicles will be safe, sustainable carriers for the astronauts lucky enough to visit the Moon in the later stages of the Artemis project.

NASA’s Contract With SpaceX

Let’s dig into the details on NASA and SpaceX.

Last year, NASA created a contract with SpaceX to aid in developing safe carriers for humans traveling to the Moon. This contract came to a massive monetary amount of $2.89 billion. NASA trusts SpaceX to do a spectacular job with this assignment.

Currently, the two companies are focused on guaranteeing the safety of the crew members who will be traveling to the Moon in the later stages of the project. If all goes well, NASA will be able to send these astronauts to explore other regions of the Moon previously unchecked.

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for future updates regarding the development of these carriers.

Breaking Down the Artemis Outline

With so much information on hand about the Artemis project, it can be jarring trying to understand the intended timeline of events.

While we will see American astronauts revisit the Moon, there will be a non-human test first. Artemis I will launch sometime this year, using a crewless spacecraft to test the safety of all factors before any finalized plans to send astronauts.

Artemis I itself will also involve some preliminary testing, as reported by Space.com. On June 19, NASA will perform a vital fuel test for the rocket used for the later mission. The June 19 test comes after several previous test runs for this rocket.

All of this is incredibly exciting, and it’ll be amazing to see Artemis come to fruition in its various stages. While we all eagerly wait for this lunar landing, we should also keep in mind that this project entails a patient process with multiple key events.

Not a business owner? Here are a few tips to find the perfect job for you in NWA

Next Steps for the Artemis Project

It’s important to note that the next step, Artemis II, won’t happen until later. As exciting as this mission is, it’s doubtful that we’ll see it happen in 2022.

Instead, as NASA Space Flight reported, the earliest date we’d see for Artemis II is sometime in September 2023. However, even with this estimate, it’s still possible to see the actual launch date sometime later, likely in 2024.

There will also be Artemis III later down the road. This central part of the project is likely to happen sometime in 2025. This will be a tremendous achievement to see another American lunar landing since the last one in 1972.

When 2025 comes around, younger generations will be able to see what it was like for our predecessors to see astronauts walk across the Moon. No doubt, it’ll be the experience of a lifetime for all.

How Northwest Arkansas Is Preparing for Lunar Benefits

As one can imagine, all of these projects will have immense benefits for northwest Arkansas. Artemis will bring an incredible level of prestige to the region.

On top of preparing the necessary equipment for Artemis, Northwest Arkansas is also about to be a booming center for aerospace. According to Aerospace Arkansas, this industry has already provided the state with 10,000 jobs.

Here’s a bit of what’s happened. Walmart has always been established here, and much of what they did was outsourced. Now, they’re bringing everything in-house, and they’re on a hiring spree for all things technology. So if you want to make a play at Walmart and you’re in the technology sphere, definitely apply at Walmart because they’re hiring a bunch.

They’re creating and getting ready to fill a 350-acre campus in the next couple of years for their employees, who are hiring more employees coming here.

On top of that, so many tech startups are coming here; We have venture capitalists, Canoo, the Evie manifest –we’ve heard they’re potentially going to be working more with NASA.

It’s reasonable to expect even more jobs out of these ongoing innovations. Northwest Arkansas has been thriving and will continue to grow as more attention is given to it as a hub for technological success.

The University of Arkansas holds a crazy amount of patents for medical tech stuff and business licenses. Multiple patents will probably be front runners for future technology in battery, medical, and virtual reality tech. So all of NWA is becoming a major tech hub, medical hub, and business hub for everything around here.

So many people are moving here, which is a great thing because everything’s set up –the infrastructure, the community stuff, the trails –everything’s set up for the people to move. And now we have the jobs ready, and we have aerospace coming.

Conclusion: The Future in Northwest Arkansas

Northwest Arkansas will soon be the hub for the Artemis moon mission, which could see completion in the next few years. This is incredibly exciting, especially since it’s been 50 years since America last visited the Moon.

This prestigious mission will bring a great deal of honor and attention to northwest Arkansas. With this corner of the state soon to be the launching pad for America’s next lunar exploration mission, economic boons will abound for this region. So NWA is really poised to be, once again, just a great place to live, work, and play.
