Northwest Arkansas Highlights: Trails, Coffee & Electric Flight

Phillip ShepardBy Phillip Shepard5 Mins Read

4 Crazy and WILD Things Happening in Northwest Arkansas

Northwest Arkansas never slows down. From new urban hangouts in Fayetteville to cutting edge electric flight in Bentonville, here are four of the wildest things happening right now that you should know about. If you like coffee, bikes, trails, or futuristic airplanes, stay tuned.

The Upper Ramble in Fayetteville

Fayetteville just announced big plans for the Upper Ramble, a stretch that runs from the Fayetteville Library down toward the college area and Dixon Street. What used to be an underused parking lot is being reimagined as a mixed use pocket of the city with:

  • A new hotel
  • Townhouses
  • Multi use commercial spaces perfect for coffee shops, restaurants, and small retail
  • More outdoor gathering and sitting spots that tie into the existing trail system

The Upper Ramble sits along the Razorback Greenway, the trail that runs from south Fayetteville up to Bella Vista. The idea is simple and smart: create a community centric hangout that compliments the Walton Arts Center and the lively Dixon Street scene. Think pre or post-show coffee and dinner, more small businesses, and easy access to trails, rock climbing, and even gaming and laser tag in the Dixon area.

Shift 2025 Comes to Bentonville

Shift is the mountain biking industry event that brings the industrys biggest names together, and Shift 2025 is headed to Bentonville. This is more than a conference. It is a gathering of trail builders, manufacturers, athletes, thought leaders, and yes, people from national and international mountain biking communities.

Why Bentonville? Because it has become a global example of what a community can build around mountain biking and trails. People from Switzerland, France, the UK, Australia, and China all come here to see it in action. The event is a showcase, but its also collaborative. The mountain biking culture here is one that shares what it has built so others can replicate it back home.

If you are planning a visit around Shift or want to see Bentonville trails, I put together 3 day itineraries to help you experience the best of the region whether youre an adventurer, foodie, parent, or sightseer.

Dodo Coffee Expands to Weddington and Wins at Tyson

Yes, another coffee shop, but hear me out. Dodo Coffee has quietly become a local favorite in NWA. Their prior location near MLK drew lines that were bonkers, and even though that particular shop had to make way for highway expansion work, Dodo didnt miss a beat.

They are currently building a new shop on Weddington near Cross Church and a major apartment complex by 49. Walls are already up and it looks like they will be open in months not years. This location fits perfectly with the neighborhood growth and will be another strong local hangout.

Big news for Dodo beyond Fayetteville: they won the bid to operate a coffee shop inside Tyson in Springdale, beating 13 competitors. Landing that spot inside one of the regions major employers is a huge win and marks Dodos growth from cool local concept to a regional player.

UP Summit and the Electric Plane Scene in Bentonville

The UP Summit is where innovation in flight, drones, and sustainable aviation technology comes together. Bentonville hosted the event again, featuring drone tech, advanced composites, and conversations about electrifying small aircraft.

One standout effort comes from Game Composites, the company focused on electrifying planes that has ties to the Waltons. Aviation runs in that family. Sam Walton was a pilot who used to fly to scout locations and the family continues to be heavily involved in aviation. So if you see a near silent electric plane over Bentonville, dont freak out. It is probably part of this innovation ecosystem.

The summit mixes public exhibits with closed door meetings where industry leaders and innovators discuss what the next 10 to 20 years might look like for flight. It is open to the public and is a great family friendly experience if you want to see future tech up close.

What this all means for Northwest Arkansas

  • Fayetteville is investing in walkable, mixed use spaces that strengthen the arts and downtown scenes.
  • Bentonville continues to be a global trail and outdoor recreation hub while also becoming a center for aviation innovation.
  • Local businesses like Dodo Coffee are growing and winning big regional opportunities.
  • Across NWA developments are focused on experiences people want to live near and enjoy now.
